Indian-Origin Man Sworn In As High Court Judge In Singapore

Dedar Singh Gill first joined the Supreme Court bench in August 2018, as judicial commissioner.

Dedar Singh Gill, an Indian-origin judicial commissioner and mental property professional in Singapore, was on Monday sworn in as a decide of the city-state’s High Court.

Mr Gill, whose appointment for the celebrated judicial submit was cleared in April this 12 months, took oath of the workplace within the presence of President Halimah Yacob.

Justice Gill, 61, first joined the Supreme Court bench in August 2018, the place he was appointed judicial commissioner.

The Supreme Court includes the High Court and the Court of Appeal.

Before that, he was the managing director of the mental property division at Drew and Napier.

While working for the agency, he appeared as a counsel earlier than the High Court and Court of Appeal for main company purchasers, and had established a popularity for his experience in mental property regulation.

After assuming his Supreme Court function, Mr Gill was appointed by Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon to handle the mental property record of the High Court, and labored on reviewing the mental property dispute decision system in Singapore.

In addition to mental property instances, Mr Gill has expertise in instances associated to contract, tort and negligence issues.

He graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Law with Honours in 1983.

With Mr Gill’s appointment, the Supreme Court could have a complete of 25 judges, 4 judicial commissioners, 4 senior judges and 17 worldwide judges.
