A 13-year-old woman in Meghalaya died after falling right into a river whereas attempting to assist her good friend who was slipping right into a waterfall, police stated on Monday.
The incident passed off at 2:30 pm on Sunday when the woman together with three of her mates went to the waterfall on the Daram Gurakol stream close to Rongkuchong village, they stated.
The woman, recognized as Mima Patiasa Ok Sangma, noticed one in all her mates shedding stability and slipping into the water whereas they had been standing close to the sting of the waterfall.
Without worrying for her personal security, she reached out and saved her good friend.
But whereas attempting to take action, she fell into the river, Superintendent of Police, North Garo Hills district, Abraham T Sangma stated.
“Her body was recovered from the downstream of the river and handed over to the family after post-mortem,” he stated.
Eyewitnesses stated, the water present was extraordinarily robust with rocks protruding alongside the trail of the waterfall as effectively in most elements of the river which can have led to her dying.
“We are extremely proud of her act and that she selflessly gave her life to save another. Our thoughts are with her family at this moment of tragedy. Her sacrifice let one of her friend’s live,” a neighbour stated.
